The Korean Peacemaking Webzine – English Edition

A Proposal

As the publisher of the Korean Peacemaking Webzine,
(http://www.peacemaking.co.kr),

I intend to publish an English edition that will deal with peace and unification issues on the Korean peninsula along with other conflicts in East Asia. The details of the proposal follow:

1. The Background of the Publication

American civil society has not shown sufficient interest or concern on issues of peace on the Korean peninsula and is quite uninformed of the reality of the situation. Even though most Americans have some knowledge of the issues, they have been misinformed and do not realize the seriousness of the matter. This ignorance and naiveté could lead to further confusion and conflict. This gap in knowledge allows the Bush administration to act more aggressively towards North Korea. This will continue, and perhaps worsen, unless these errors are corrected. In order to allow the Korean people themselves, along with other concerned parties, to understand the real situation in Korea, we realize the need to make a long-term effort. The Peacemaking Webzine, which will be sent to American civil society and to the world via email and as a webpage, is an important part of our effort to create a more peaceful atmosphere on the Korean peninsula.

2. Concept

By helping American society to correct their mistaken perspective and to enable proper understanding of the situation on the Korean peninsula and in East Asia, we hope to promote peace between the United States and Korea and also between East Asia and the United States. These efforts will greatly contribute to East Asia’s peaceful co-existence.

3. Goal

Through this home page, we hope to eradicate the current unequal relationship between Korea and the USA and to help guide American civil society towards making efforts for peace on the Korean peninsula. We also hope to promote solidarity between the people in the USA and Korean peace organizations.

4. Publication Method

(1) Set up a Korea and USA editorial committee to be responsible for publishing the English edition of the webzine.

(2) The editor along with the editorial committee will decide the contents of the webzine.

(3) The editorial committee will be responsible for the translation and proofreading of the webzine.

(4) The Korean editor will be responsible for the publication of the webzine.

(5) The committee on each side will appoint an editor and editorial team.

The English Edition of the Peacemaking Webzine

1. Content

1.1 One of the world’s biggest concerns is the prevention of war on the Korean peninsula. Civil society must help promote peace by making grass root, human links among the people of Korea, East Asia and the United States.

1.2 All content of the webzine will be centered on the ways to promote peace.

1.3 We would like to make solidarity with the American people. We cordially welcome any contribution from Americans who are making efforts to promote peace in Korea and throughout East Asia.

2. Aim

2.1 To deliver peace messages to global citizens who hope for peace on the Korean peninsula and throughout East Asia.

2.2 To promote peace by considering how to solve the United States – North Korea nuclear issue through conflict resolution.

2.3 To promote peaceful reunification through the process of South and North reconciliation.

2.4 To address the concerns of national well-being through the process of peaceful unification.

2.5 To realize positive and lasting peace by eliminating structural violence.

2.6 To foster a changed view of the situation on the Korean peninsula by criticizing and debunking aspects of United States foreign policy that involve Korea and East Asia.

2.7 To present the will of the Korean people to the United States civil society which is ignorant of its government’s policies. We criticize the U.S. government’s imperialistic characteristics, however we do not criticize American civil society. We hope that American civil society will contribute to making peace for Korea and East Asia.

2.8 To notify and to teach the American public what needs to be done to deliver peace to Korea and throughout East Asia.

2.9 To achieve the above goals, we intend to publish the English edition of the Peacemaking Webzine.
